Rooftop Vibes

I really love rooftops; so when Dani asked me if I wanted to do a shoot on the penthouse of her place, I couldn't refuse. The shoot was mostly during the really bright hours of the afternoon so there was a lot of experimenting with more harsh lights. It was fun to step out of my comfort zone and shoot in less than the super soft lights of overcast days.

The first set of photos we took was indoors. It was around 4:30 and the sun was still quite high in the sky so I decided to try to get curtains diffuse the light around the room. What came out was this really soft and almost film like tones (at least for me) which was exactly what I was going for.

After shooting in the room, we moved onto this staircase in Dani's living room. There were lots of steel beams and glass that let the light flood the room. I took this opportunity to use my prism to reflect the steel bars which gave this really cool effect. We moved onto the roof after shooting here.

The wind was blowing from all directions on the roof so even with the sun still there, it was pretty cold. I experimented with black and white with the last image and I really liked how it came out.

You can find the photos in my portrait book here.
